A recent
article published in the Project Management Journal (by Project
Management Institute) concluded, for many enterprises, sustainable
success is closely liked to Information Systems (IS) and Information
Technologies (IT). Despite significant efforts to improve
software project success, many still fail. Current literature
indicates that most of the software project problems are related
to management, organizational, human and cultural issues,
and NOT technical problems.
We at FAST know that project management
is key to a successful IT project and will only undertake one after
Critical Success Factors (CSF) have been established and agreed.
Critical Success Factors vary in importance with each team member
(for example, management may feel cost/productivity is No.1, while
order processing may feel that functionality should be No.1. If
both these views are not satisfied, the project is doomed to fail).
Signoff on an agreed set of Critical Success Factors by the owner,
all stakeholders and vendors is crucial.
Some of the typical issues we look
for in all of our projects:
- Inform Owner and Stakeholders of Project
Status
- Consult with Owner during all stages of the
project
- Keep communication channels open
- Clearly define the project mission
- Top management are 100% behind the project
- The project achieves its stated business
purpose
- A detailed project plan and budget are in
place
- Appropriate resources and technology are
in place
- Project changes are managed through formal
process
- Project is completed with minimal and agreed
to scope changes
Let us show you all that we can
and will do to help you greatly reduce your risk, while dramatically
increasing your chances for a successful IT project.
